Abstract:

Well known incidents of the last years have greatly heightened the awareness of structural engineers of the threat of terrorist attacks using explosives. The extensive research in the field of blast analysis, structure response and protective design methods are performed and a number of guidelines for blast protection are prepared. This paper deals with blast loads on building structures. All effects, for example blast pressure, reflected blast pressure are taken into account. In detail the blast load pressure is obtained. For this loading a response spectrum is derived for a single degree of system. This spectrum is very useful instrument for studying of multi degree of freedom system when we decompose it into several single degree of freedom systems. The results are compared with the structure response obtained by time history methods of structural dynamics. Thus the accuracy of the mode superposition method is estimated.
